The obverse of the banknote features a portrait of the writer Aleko Konstantinov, figures and elements connected with the tourist movement in Bulgaria, the title page of his travel notes ‘To Chicago and Back’, vertically printed texts ‘Алеко Константинов’ (Aleko Konstantinov) and ‘1863 – 1897’, and the value of the banknote in numbers and letters.

Background colour – green.

Material – banknote paper tinted in green, varnished after printing.

The reverse of the banknote features elements connected with Aleko Konstantinov’s life and works, and the value of the banknote is written in numbers and letters.

Raised print – The obverse features Aleko Konstantinov’s portrait, the texts ‘БЪЛГАРСКА НАРОДНА БАНКА’ (Bulgarian National Bank) and ‘СТО ЛЕВА’ (100 levs), the title page of the travel notes ‘To Chicago and Back’, the invitation for setting up the Bulgarian Tourist Union, and the year of issue ‘2018’.

Security thread – It is embedded in the paper and partially appears on the reverse with a repeating bright text ‘БНБ 100’ (BNB 100) and a dynamic chessboard effect shifting from emerald green to sapphire blue. The repeated text ‘БНБ 100’ is visible on the obverse when the banknote is held up to the light.

High resolution watermark – It is visible when the banknote is held up to the light. It consists of a high resolution semi-tone image of Aleko Konstantinov’s portrait. The same images are visible on the reverse of the banknote.

Hologram stripe with optical effects – When the banknote is swayed, there are alternating images of edelweiss and Aleko Konstantinov’s profile; Aleko Konstantinov’s coloured hologram portrait; а detail of Aleko Konstantinov's monument which changes its colour from emerald gгееn to sapphire blue when the banknote is swayed; а dynamic chessboard effect with the change of colour from emerald gгееn to sapphire blue when the banknote is swayed, and a 3D image of the number 100.

See-through register – A rectangular chessboard field in the middle of the right side of the obverse, in which the number ‘100’ is visible on both sides of the banknote when it is held up to the light.

Optically variable ink – The number 100 is printed in variable ink with a dynamic chessboard effect, and when the banknote is swayed, it changes its colour from emerald gгееn to sapphire blue.

Hidden image – When the banknote is tilted, the number ‘100’ appears in the top corner, to the left of the hologram stripe.

Microtext on the obverse – There are horizontal lines with the text ‘АЛЕКО КОНСТАНТИНОВ’ (Aleko Konstantinov), the years ‘1863 1897’ and ‘СТО ЛЕВА 100 ЛЕВА’ (100 levs) in the background to the left of the portrait, and two vertical lines to the right of the portrait with the text ‘АЛЕКО КОНСТАНТИНОВ’.

Microtext on the reverse – Microtext fully covers Aleko Konstantinov’s jacket.

UV-fluorescence – Under ultra-violet light (365 nm) a detail of Aleko Konstantinov’s monument, the clock and the title page of the book ‘Bay Ganyo’ appear in red. Aleko Konstantinov’s profile appears in blue, and the edelweiss and two images of the number ‘100’ appear in yellow-green.

Mark for visually impaired people – In the bottom right corner of the obverse there is a relief image of a triangle pointing downwards and a rectangle underneath, with its shorter side as its base.

Additional mark for visually impaired people – It consists of five thick and six thin lines at an angle along the two short sides of the banknote.
